Paramotoring Conversion Courses

Take your paragliding into powered flight

Already flying paragliders and ready to add an engine? Our paramotor conversion training teaches you the skills and procedures needed to make the transition from free flight to powered flight.

BOOK CONVERSION TRAINING

Already a paraglider pilot?

Paramotoring isn’t a completely new form of flying. Your existing paragliding skills give you a strong foundation, but adding a motor changes how you launch, fly, manage your equipment and make decisions.

Paramotoring isn’t a completely new form of flying. Your existing paragliding skills give you a strong foundation, but adding a motor changes how you launch, fly, manage your equipment and make decisions.

This course is for you if you:

  • Already hold your PG2 / appropriate paragliding qualification
  • Can launch, fly and land independently
  • Have experience making your own flying decisions
  • Want to add powered flight to your flying
  • Want to learn the motor and its procedures properly rather than simply strapping one on and figuring it out yourself

Don’t have your PG2 yet? No Worries

We’ll teach you everything you need to know. There are two paths you can take

It’s still a paraglider. But the flying changes.

Adding a motor gives you a new level of freedom, but it also introduces new equipment, procedures and considerations.

You’ll learn how the motor affects your launch, your handling, your flight planning and your decisions in the air.

THE MOTOR

Understand the engine, controls, propeller and operating procedures.

THE LAUNCH

Learn to manage the wing and motor together during powered launches.

THE FLIGHT

Understand how thrust, weight and power affect your flying.

THE DECISIONS

Learn when to use the motor, when not to, and how to manage powered flight safely.

Your conversion training

01 · Equipment

Get familiar with your paramotor, harness, wing and controls. Learn pre-flight checks, starting and stopping procedures, and how to recognise problems before they become problems.

02 · Ground handling

Learn to control the wing while carrying the motor and develop the coordination needed for powered launches.

03 · Powered flight

Progress into powered take-offs and flights, building your understanding of throttle control, climb, cruise, turns and landing with the motor.

04 · Independent operation

As your skills develop, you’ll take more responsibility for your equipment, weather assessment, flight planning and decisions.

Learn it properly, then make it your own

Conversion training is tailored to your existing experience. You already know how to fly a paraglider, so we don’t need to start from zero. Instead, we focus on the skills and knowledge that are specific to powered flight.

Training is progressive. You’ll start with the equipment and ground work before moving into powered flights as your skills and the conditions allow.

Learn on equipment You will keep flying

To keep the cost of courses down to earth, we don’t have a fleet of paramotors to suit all sizes.

All PPG training happens on students’ own equipment. When you’re ready to buy your own equipment, we can help you choose a paramotor, wing and harness that suit your body type, PG experience and PPG goals.

Working towards your paramotor qualification

Your previous paragliding experience provides the foundation for the conversion, but paramotoring has its own training and licensing requirements.

Your instructor will assess your progress against the applicable requirements and advise you when you’re ready to complete the qualification process.

You can find more about the requirements in NZHGPA OPMs – PPG cert
