How does a typical training day work?

1. Get the update
You’ll be added to the ParaPro WhatsApp community, where we share weather updates and organise training days. We usually give you a heads-up 2–3 days before suitable weather.

2. Meet in the morning
We meet at the agreed training location for a morning and landing briefing. You’ll be grouped with pilots at a similar stage of training.

3. Get ready to fly
You’ll be provided with a paraglider, harness, helmet and radio, then we’ll head up to the launch together.

4. Fly and learn
We train according to the conditions and your stage of progression. The length and structure of the day depend on the weather.

General

Do I need previous experience?

No. The Intro Day is designed for complete beginners.

Do I need to buy equipment?

No. Training equipment is provided by ParaPro.

How long does the training take?

Training is flexible. We recommend blocks of consecutive days where possible, followed by additional sessions around your schedule.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We don’t fly when conditions aren’t appropriate. Weather analysis, theory and other training can still make a non-flying day useful.

Do I automatically get my licence after 40 flights?

The minimum required flights you need to obtain your PG2 licence is 40. Most student pilots meet the standards just fine, but to remove pressure ParaPro offer 45 flights during the full course.

What if I need more than 45 flights?

In the rare case of pilot not meeting the standards (typically due to pilot’s inconsistent attendance to training) we will switch to ‘pay per flight’ bases. Additional supervised training is available at $80 per flight.

What do all the abbreviations mean?

The abbreviations used by NZHGPA

PG1 = Paraglider 1 ( student)
PG2 = Paraglider 2 ( pilot)
PG3 = Paraglider 3 ( advanced)
PPG = PPG Powered Paraglider

Why do I need NZHGPA membership?
